BIKING

The bike is especially important to us Tiroleans. Cycling is a sport that can be either pursued in a highly intense or relaxed way, on roads, in the forest on gravel roads, uphill and speedily downhill, on single trails or freeride trails – most importantly fast and with plenty of action. In the Ötztal you are right in the middle, with your mountain bike and with your racing bicycle (cue: Ötztaler Cycle Marathon) and newly if you want to, you can resort to some electric support.

Jörg Scheiderbauer, sports director of the FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC World World Cup Team, one of the world’s best mountain bike teams: “It is mostly the versatility of biking that attracts me as an old stager again and again to pedal away passionately. You’re in the outdoors, in fantastic places like the Ötztal valley and you can either ride with ambition or simply enjoy the scenery. Whether you explore the area in a group or are looking for a challenge on single trails and explore your physical limits – with your bike the world is your oyster.”

Transalp winner Karen Eller has a first tip for you: “I love to take the lift to the mid-terminal (Gaislachkogl) and follow the level trail towards Hühnersteign from there and continue downhill to Gampe Thaya restaurant. I always stop at Dani’s for the world’s best “Kaiserschmarrn” (shredded pancakes with sugar and raisins). Afterwards I have great fun riding downhill to Sölden along root-covered trails.”

For planning your personal tour you can use the mountain bike database. To begin with you can check out the overview at:
