Ötztaler Cycle Marathon

One of Europe’s Toughest Road Bike Races. On 30 August 2026, the 45th edition of the legendary Ötztaler Radmarathon 2026 takes place in Sölden. Even among experienced cyclists, this race is known as one of the greatest endurance challenges in Europe.

Often described as the ultimate high-alpine suffering test, the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon attracts highly trained and determined riders from around the world every year. Thousands of athletes from more than 15 nations compete for one of the limited starting places, making it one of the most sought-after amateur cycling events in the Alps.

A Marathon of Superlatives

The route is famous for its extreme demands and spectacular scenery. Riders cross:

  • 2 countries
  • 4 climate zones
  • 4 Alpine mountain passes
  • 227 kilometres distance
  • 5,500 metres of elevation gain
  • climbs of up to 18% gradient

The course leads through the Ötztal valley, up to Kühtai Pass, through Innsbruck, across the Brenner Pass, over Jaufen Pass and through St. Leonhard before the final legendary ascent to the 2,509 m high Timmelsjoch.

Depending on performance level, participants usually complete the course in around 7 to 14 hours.

Camping Sölden – The Perfect Base for Riders

Camping Sölden is located only around 300 metres from the start area, making it an ideal base for participants and supporters.

  • mountain atmosphere at 1,400 m altitude
  • excellent location in the heart of the Alps

For the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon period, early reservation is highly recommended. Many participants book their accommodation as soon as they secure their race entry.

Including a few days of acclimatisation before race day is also strongly advised.
